Native of Nicaragua, it is produced from molasses that is made from sugar cane that is harvested in an area adjacent to the distillery in Chichigalpa, at the San Antonio Sugar Mill. Compared to the youngest member of the “Centenario Gold” collection, the 12 years rum, this 18 years rum presents an interesting maturity, remaining in the nose and on the palate much more complex. The flavor of oak can be felt at the same time soft and spicy, thanks to years spent in small barrels of the same type of white American wood; more charred notes of oak can be feel in addition to the sweetness of vanilla, remaining very pleasant. The best ways to enjoy this jewel of Central America are leaving it straight or “on the rocks”: in such an aged rum you would expect a predominance of woody notes, but here they are balanced by the spices, the toasted nuts and the chocolate that capture senses in a refined way.
