The recipe for Citadelle Gin was developed in 1771 in a distillery in Dunkirk, one of the first ports of Europe on the way back to the carriers of the trade company who returned from the east loaded with spices. At that time, the Citadel, the fortress built to protect Dunkirk, distillers had the idea to infuse these spices with alcohol and distill. Thus was born this gin French. Production methods have improved over time but the recipe has remained the same unchanged. More recently it was decided to produce a line "reserves" very exclusive. Limited production (about 8,000 bottles worldwide) and distilled in 2008, aged for 6 months in 21 barrels of Cognac Pierre Ferrand. You get a gin by the great balance between intensity and finesse, tasty and complex with hints of dried fruit, slightly toasted, black chocolate, pineapple, banana and a touch of plum. A gin high class, very delicate, clean taste, sweet and elegant. The maturation in old oak barrels manages to combine the freshness and complexity of Citadelle Gin with the sophistication of spirits aged in wood. Retains the aroma and the liveliness of the Citadelle crispy base enriching it with a soft fullness and rounder.
