1111The Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine “Orthogneiss” from Domaine de l'Ecu is a French wine from the western Loire Valley, produced with the Melon de Bourgogne grape in purity. It is a very famous white wine because it represents the absolute best pairing with an oyster dish. Its citrusy and fruity profile, simple, fresh, and slightly savory, perfectly matches the marine flavor and the meaty and rich consistency of the prized mollusk. The vinification in concrete helps to maintain its characteristic varietal profile, in its full and harmonious expressive fragrance.

The Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine “Orthogneiss” white wine is the result of a long research effort aimed at creating labels capable of authentically expressing the great wines of the Loire region. Guy Bossard began to take an interest in vineyard management protocols compatible with the environment, inspired by organic farming, since the early 1970s, consciously embracing biodynamics twenty years later. A journey that led him to adopt a production philosophy based on the progressive and complete elimination of chemicals. Even in the cellar, he follows the path of minimal intervention, using spontaneous fermentations, indigenous yeasts, very low use of sulfur dioxide, and aging in inert materials, such as concrete or terracotta, to preserve the varietal purity of the grapes.  His wines still retain an artisanal character, and today Domaine de l’Ecu is one of the most interesting quality realities in the Nantes wine region.

The Muscadet “Orthogneiss” wine produced by Domaine de l'Ecu comes from vines that are about 50 years old and are cultivated on soils characterized by the presence of ancient magmatic rocks of orthogneiss. At the end of fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, the wine rests for a few months in concrete before being bottled without filtration. In the glass, it has a bright golden yellow color. On the nose, it recalls aromas of white flowers, citrus, tropical fruit, toasted almonds, spices, and hints of iodine and marine notes. The taste is harmonious, with ripe and delicate fruit and a finish of balanced freshness, closing on savory and mineral notes.
